Karma Killer

"Crave" was released in 2002, but there are 2 CDs from 2001 containing "Karma Killer":

- Greetings From Santa Monica (compilation/sampler)

- Tales From The Fishbowl (advance version of "Crave")

Is it possible that the MySpace version of "Karma Killer" (aka "Bill Appleberry Remix" or "single version") was released on one of these CDs?

Are we missing a version of Karma Killer? Sorry I am not very familiar with the track. Are there multiple versions or mixes or something that are known?

Only 2 versions (2 different mixes) as far as I know. The album version and the MySpace version, which was posted here on LPLive as being "the version from the unreleased Karma Killer single".

We have alternative versions/mixes of "Walking Dead" and "It's Goin' Down" from promo CDs, so I think it's possible that the MySpace version is actually an early version of the song that was included on some promo CD.

the Myspace/Single/Alternate version always titled as Bill Appleberry Remix, the producer of the album is - Bill Appleberry, and this version not sounds like remix at all.

Bill Appleberry remixed Karma Killer for the single release, but the single was scrapped. That's what Declan told me, when I asked him about the different version of this song from the Cyclefly's MySpace player. I posted this info a few years ago and that's where the title "Bill Appleberry Remix" comes from. "Single Version" would be more accurate, though.

so it's all because of you. :P

so as answer to the main post, you said it was scrapped, so it's not released anywhere except MySpace?

I am really sorry...lol

Yep, it wasn't released on any of the known CDs. It is possible that some promo CDs were made before the single was scrapped, but it's just a guess.

The admin of some really old Cyclefly website once told me that "Karma Killer" from "Santa Monica" compilation is exactly the same as the album version, but I'm not sure if we can 100% rely on her ear.

So, to sum it all up, there are currently 2 versions of "Karma Killer" in circulation:

1. The album version

2. The single version (Remixed by Bill Appleberry. Released through MySpace)

There is also a possibility that the "Santa Monica" version is different, because it was released a year earlier, but we can't verify this, because this CD is really rare.

Thanks!

  • 1 year later...

Got to talk with Ciaran O'Shea today. Here's what he said:

- Is there a version of Karma Killer without Chester? I guess that this song was recorded in 2000, but Chester wasn't traveling with Linkin Park until 2001, so there's got to be a recording without his vocals.
Karma killer chester vox was recorded in l.a. The week Linkin park released one step closer yes there is a version without chester but was never released.

- So I assume that Chester recorded his vocals in LA and then send it to you? Or you were in LA as well at the time? Did you ever meet him before you worked on the track together?

We had been friends with chester for a few years before he joined L P
We were together in L.A. when vocals were recorded!

Also, thanks, Mark!

Thank you!
So, according to Ciaran, Chester recorded his vocals for Karma Killer the week One Step Closer was released.
Wikipedia says the single was released on September 28, 2000, but that's probably a CD single release date and Ciaran most likely mean the week OSC has hit the radio or the music video has hit MTV. Does anyone know these dates?
